Getting a Shower Niche Right the First Time
A niche is limited to the wall cavity, so usable depth is around three inches once substrate and tile are accounted for. Height is the dimension worth spending. Place the opening below shower-head height so it is out of direct spray, on an interior wall clear of plumbing, and slope the sill forward so it drains instead of holding a puddle.
